Memory and Heritage
Students of the Institute for Humanities at Krosno State College continue a tradition initiated by Barbara Jackowska, MA, of maintaining war cemetery N.o 62 in Banica (Sękowa community, Małopolskie Voivodeship). The graveyard was renovated after many years of decay and oblivion. A great contribution to the recovery of the cemetery was made by the German Students’ Association under the guidance of Krystyna Szayna-Dec, Ph.D.. The cemetery is a place of eternal rest for several dozens of soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian army, victims of the First World War. In 2007, the students of the German studies received a certificate from the Austrian Black Cross as a sign of gratitude for the efforts made to commemorate the victims of the war.
